Hotel La Compañía is on the site where La Compañía de Jesús (Company of Jesus) settled after the destruction of the original Panama City back in 1671. The Jesuit Convent was constructed after the foundation of the new Panama City in 1673, the heart and soul of Casco Antiguo. The hotel’s premium establishment, 1739, was originally inside a chapel inside San Xavier University. It stands adjacent to the ruins of the Jesuit Church of the same year. Anyone travelling to Panama must consider staying at La Compania Hotel in Casco Viejo (the old part of the city)! Apart from being gorgeous, comfortable and having excellent and numerous choices of top quality restaurants, Hotel La Compania is an educational experience. The history of Panama and specifically the history of the Panama Canal is spread throughout the hotel. The inclusion of Spanish, French and American influences is extremely well done and parallel the participation of these countries in the development and creation of the Panama Canal. Definitely a bucket list place to stay.
